For one harrowing moment, Regan sees the dog and pictures one of the creatures coming out at it. SHe doesn't even know if the dog has barked, or is making any noise at all. But there's a definite moment of fear across her face.

Then the dog is closer, and sniffing at her, and she lowers a hand to let it sniff at her fingers as well. She doesn't notice the boy, not until the leash appears in her line of sight and flashes as he clicks it onto the dog's collar.

She looks up and makes an apologetic face.
