Mar. 7th, 2021 05:40 pmThe arcade has a side room for birthday parties that people can rent and block off from the rest of the arcade. There's a nice big table, and plenty of places to hang decorations. It's spacious enough for all of them, but still private enough that random kids from outside can't come in and sneak pizza or cake.
Regan can't afford to rent that room.
But the arcade is still a good place for a birthday party. She hogs a couple of booths close together with presents, she orders a couple pepperoni pizzas and convinces Greta to bake the cake itself. Regan looks up a lot of different arcade pictures on the internet before she decorates it. And the cake is pretty cool, actually, if she does say so herself. The lettering is done in as close to the same font as the Street Fighter game title as she could manage, and the middle of the cake has two small Street Fighter action figures that she'd bought off dBay (and thoroughly santized), posed like they're fighting. She needs to use a couple of toothpicks to hold them in their poses, but it still looks really cool.
It feels good. It feels good to throw a party for her boyfriend, and to surround herself with her friends. It distracts her from the slowly piling stress of school and volunteering at the elderly dog place, and keeping an eye on Saoirse. Besides, how could she not throw a party for him, after the awesome one at the bowling alley that he threw for her?
She gets him some balloons that say 'Happy 50th!' in different shades of blue, in keeping with the 'Happy birthday Mom!' balloons he'd gotten for her on her birthday, and for his present, she'd managed to save up enough to buy him one of those really fancy figures, this one of his favorite Street Fighter character, with a gift card for the arcade taped to the bottom.
She hopes he likes it. She hopes all the Losers like it, because they could all use a fun, silly hangout together, she thinks. So much has been happening, with Stan's bullies, and Richie getting suspended, and Beverly's guardian getting that new girl living with them. They could all use a break.
